Review: Quantum Astrology: Science, Spirit and Our Place in the Cycles of History
Quantum mechanics has fascinated me for awhile now. My interest started with a really great book, recommended by a friend, called
Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot. Then the DVD
What the Bleep Do You Know? came along to interest me more in the idea of quantum mechanics, though I don't agree with the concept that water is affected by emotions. Now I have found the
Quantum Astrology DVD. This particularly excited me, as I have for a long time felt that astrology is integrated into our material universe, but we haven't been trying to measure or compare it by the correct means or methods.
Rick Levine, a well-known astrologer and writer, did a fine job of narrating this DVD. He put difficult to understand quantum physics ideas into language everyone can digest, and topped it off with some nicely animated graphics to illustrate his points.
He explains how astrology is based on planetary cycles, and how they affect societies at large, rather than the cycles on the individual level. He illustrates the concept by going through specific events in history that coincided with Saturn/Pluto conjunctions and oppositions, and then Neptune/Uranus conjunctions and oppositions throughout history. It was fascinating.
Astrologers will appreciate the types of events mentioned with the Saturn/Pluto conjunctions and oppositions, such as the overthrowing of countries and the division of peoples, whereas the Uranus/Neptune conjunctions and oppositions coincided with technology inventions and breaking out of the norm, such as the publication of the theory of relativity, and the explosion of the popularity of the Internet. Rick did a great job of explaining the history and the planetary cycles which repeated these historical themes like clock-work.
The point of the DVD is not to prove astrology is to be believed. On the contrary, Rick points out that astrology is a tool to be used, just as mathematics is a tool. We don't need faith; we need to see how it works in our lives.
Will this DVD convince people that astrology is a valid science? Probably not, but he raises great food for thought, and opens the door to the possibility of thinking of astrology in new ways. Professional and students of astrology will enjoy this DVD, and hopefully consider the possibility that astrology can be within the realm of science. Absolutely, they will get a lot out of seeing the Saturn/Pluto and Uranus/Neptune cycles repeat throughout history.
I'm one to argue that astrology is not a part of the occult, but is a branch of science in the same way as psychology is, but Rick takes that a step further with quantum physics. I agree with his line of thinking.
Astrology makes heaps of sense in terms of electromagnetic waves, and since the whole universe is made up of various wave frequencies and scientists are busily studying these waves on many levels with many types of instruments, I think astrology will become more acceptable and actually act as an intermediary between astronomy and psychology, one day. But that kind of thinking has to start with the astrologers themselves. As long as we keep treating astrology like it's some unexplicable phenomena, the general public will never take it seriously. We have to treat it with at least as much respect as the branch of psychology enjoys, and we can use similar means to study our methods and test results.
I'm interested in hearing more about astrology working through electromagnetic waves, as well as other possibilities within quantum mechanics. Also, I hope to see Rick do a similar DVD, using some of the inner planets and the cycles that affect us as individuals.
Note: Don't email me to tell me astrology is part of the occult, or that you don't "believe it".
